Iwan is a Partner in our corporate practice group.

Iwan is very active with the Clean Energy and Sustainability Group advising on biomass, solar, wind and tidal energy projects. Iwan has extensive experience advising buyers and sellers in relation to onshore wind farm projects in England, Wales and Scotland. Iwan has also advised clients in relation to many of the Round 2 and Round 3 offshore wind farm projects together with leading on most of our biomass transactions.

Iwan lead the Eversheds team that advised BNP Paribas on its acquisition and financing of the Sleaford biomass plant from ECO2. Iwan also advised Pennant Walters and InfraRed on their joint development of the Maesgwyn and Pant Y Wal on shore wind farms in South Wales.

Iwan has also been very active advising clients on investments and developments of solar pv projects in the UK.

Iwan’s clients range from utilities, private equity and infrastructure funds to banks and developers.

Iwan has advised on a wide variety of transactions including corporate reorganisations, joint ventures, equity and debt fund raising, mergers and public takeovers.

Iwan has acted for a large number of UK and foreign-owned businesses and has advised on a number of high-profile domestic and international transactions. Iwan spent two years working in Hong Kong and has recently been very active in advising clients on transactions in Iran, Morocco and South East Asia.

Iwan was named by Legal Week as one of the up and coming M&A parters in January 2016.

Iwan is listed as a notable practitioner by Chambers saying that he is “strong on the corporate side of energy work”. Iwan is the only lawyer listed by Chambers for 2016 as up and coming for Energy and National Resources work.

Iwan is a regular speaker at conferences and is a member of the Renewable UK Cymru Strategy Group.

Iwan worked in London and Hong Kong for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer before joining Eversheds in January 2007.

At Eversheds Sutherland LLP, Karim Mahmud, who is dual-qualified to practise in England and Wales and Canada, relocated from the London office; he has expertise in a wide ambit of infrastructure matters, including those with a nexus to oil and gas, water, mining and social infrastructure. Clint Dempsey continues to be involved in renewables project finance - he led a cross-office team in the advice to Voltalia on financing the development of a 32MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Egypt. Elsewhere, the team is active in projects in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, among other markets. Iwan Walters leads on the firm's clean energy and sustainability work in the Middle East and North Africa, acting for clients such as utilities, banks, developers, and private equity and infrastructure funds. Walters was the lead adviser to an international consortium on a bid to develop the 400MW Dumat al Jandal wind project in Saudi Arabia. Paul Taylor, who has a focus on construction and engineering disputes, joined from Reed Smith. Tim Armsby and Gurmeet Kaur are now at Pinsent Masons LLP.

Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP 's Cardiff team forms a key component of the firm's multi-disciplinary/office offering to developers, investors and an increasing roster of financiers engaged in energy, transport and social infrastructure projects including those structured on a PFI/PPP basis. The team is particularly well-known for its renewable energy projects expertise, where it is able to provide corporate, real estate, regulatory and financing input on many large international mandates handled by the firm. Corporate partner Michelle Davies is noted for her clean energy projects expertise, work which regularly sees her involved in global deals, including in the Middle East. Iwan Walters  recently relocated to the firm's Dubai office.
