Paul specialises in planning, infrastructure and compulsory purchase. He has appeared as advocate at numerous high profile public inquiries, and has a particular specialism in energy, infrastructure and residential projects. He leads the Eversheds onshore renewables planning team.

Pauls current workload includes a range of proposed renewable energy projects in England, Wales and Scotland including schemes requiring a Development Consent Order from the IPC or under s36 Electricity Act. He is also advising water authorities on the planning and compulsory purchase issues associated with the delivery of key infrastructure, and national residential developers on the delivery of strategic housing projects across the country. His wider experience also includes urban regeneration and retail schemes and conducting due diligence to support the acquisition, disposal and financing of major property portfolios.

Paul's expertise covers all aspects of the planning process including application strategy, consultation requirements, drafting planning supporting statements, environmental impact assessment, appeals, s106/75 Agreements, infrastructure agreements, compulsory purchase, town and village green applications, highways orders and legal challenges/judicial review.

Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP handles work concerning infrastructure developments and housebuilding schemes. Paul Maile and senior associate Duncan Williams continue to advise Taylor Wimpey on a development in Stafford, and are advising IM Properties on several planned developments. On the infrastructure front the team is advising DB Symmetry on developing a new rail freight interchange near Hinckley. Other work includes advice to local authorities – the team advised Cherwell District Council on drafting section 106 agreements concerning the North West Bicester Eco Town development. Energy clients include RWE Generation, which Maile continues to advise on its application for consent for a 2.5GW gas-fired power station near the proposed Tilbury 2 port, and Community Wind Power.
