Brexit and the legal implications for businesses

Simon Cloke is a technology and communications lawyer in the commercial team and heads up Eversheds’ telecoms subsector. Simon provides a broad range of advice on the commercial aspects of both technology and communications transactions and projects. Simon has an in-depth knowledge of the broad range of technologies that are deployed and has advised on a wide range of technology and telecommunications projects including outsourcing, equipment, network and services agreements.

Matters on which Simon has acted include advising:

  • One of the bidders for the provision of communications services for the Government's Smart Metering Project which in total was worth £2.5 billion.
  • On a business process outsourcing of metering and billing functionality for a large energy provider worth £150 million.
  • On a ground satellite system procurement in conjunction with colleagues in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, worth £70 million.
  • The successful bidder for the provision of data centre services for the Ministry of Justice as part of its Future IT Sourcing Programme worth approximately £30 million.
  • Cisco Systems Inc. on the communications regulatory issues raised in its $5 billion acquisition of NDS Group Holdings Limited.
  • A number of communications organisations on the regulatory obligations associated with the international roll-out, acquisition and provision of communications products and services (including data network roll-outs, VoIP services and home automation security).

Prior to joining Eversheds Simon worked for Skype in both their California and London offices advising the Skype for Business team on the wide range of commercial and regulatory issues that impacted their range of business/enterprise products.

Simon has an LLM in Computer and Communications Law from Queen Mary University of London.

The IT team at Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP advised CSC Computer Sciences on contractual and regulatory issues associated with its five year outsourcing deal with the London Insurance Market. In another highlight, a team led by the 'commercially minded'  Simon Cloke is acting for Rolls-Royce in relation to its partnership with TCS, who provides a data analysis platform. The group is also assisting Network Rail with procurement of traffic management systems. Cloke jointly heads up the team alongside Simon Gamlin.
