Claire is a Partner in the Litigation and Dispute Management Team. Claire specialises in complex commercial claims, particularly those relating to financial services or pensions.
 
Claire is one of Eversheds' specialists who deal with pensions disputes. She is experienced in dealing with a wide range of pensions disputes, including professional negligence claims on behalf of both trustees and employers, representative proceedings seeking directions from the Court and Pensions Ombudsman complaints. She acted on behalf of one of the representative beneficiaries in the Court of Appeal case Trustee Solutions Limited -v- Dubery and another [2008] 1 All ER 826. She also advised a representative defendant in the recent proceedings brought by the trustee of the Pilots National Pension Fund (PNPF Trust Company Ltd v Taylor and others [2010] EWHC 1573 (Ch)).  Claire  is also a specialist in dealing with enforcement proceedings instigated by the Financial Conduct Authority and AIM, and has recently deal with enforcement matters including market abuse, CASS, AML controls and SYSC related issues.

Claire regularly provides training for clients, and has spoken at external conferences for NAPF, SPC and the Actuarial Profession. She contributes articles and comments regularly, and has contributed several technical notes for Practical Law Company in relation to pensions issues, including "Costs in Pensions Litigation" and "Investment Issues in DC Schemes". Claire was noted as an Up and Coming Individual in Chambers 2011/12, which said that she "maintains a strong profile in the market as a "safe pair of hands" for complex pensions disputes". 

Claire is a member of the Association of Pensions Lawyers and sits on the APL Pensions Litigation Committee.

Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group, Aon, HCC International Insurance Company, KPMG, XL Catlin and Lockton Companies are among its clients. Claire Carroll¬†regularly defends claims brought against pensions professionals, trustees and advisers, and is acting for a global consultancy and the trustee of one of its occupational pension schemes in a potential professional negligence claim in relation to the possible overpayment of tax-free lump sums to more than 100 members of an occupational pension scheme. Practice head Simon Brooks, who¬†has a ‚Äėgood understanding of the law and a common-sense approach to legal issues‚Äô, is experienced in claims against insurance brokers, lawyers, accountants and construction professionals.¬†Matthew Allen¬†handles claims involving finance professionals and Paula Gaddum¬†is active across claims involving accountants, solicitors, construction professionals and brokers. The team is bolstered with the arrival of Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP , formerly at Squire Patton Boggs , Leeds, who led advice to US healthcare logistics company Owens & Minor on UK pension issues arising from the company's $710m acquisition of Halyard Health’s healthcare consumables business. In this matter the team leveraged the firm's international expertise to handle pensions and termination indemnity issues in Honduras, Thailand, Germany and France. Head of the pensions litigation department, Claire Carroll  is a key name to note for contentious matters. Principal associate Gemma Hanley  is also singled out for her 'exceptional knowledge' of energy sector pension schemes. Hanley has expertise representing utility companies and advises Anglian Water Services on a broad range of pensions issues. There have been some changes to the team include the departure of Simon Evans to DLA Piper UK LLP.
