Kevin is the head of Eversheds’ health and safety team, specialising in representing both individuals and organisations following workplace fatalities and serious incidents. Kevin also advises organisations on contentious environmental investigations and prosecutions.

Kevin has been involved in many of the high profile health and safety cases over the past decade including the Potters Bar train crash, Morecambe Bay helicopter crash and Chester le Street inflatable artwork fatalities.

Kevin devised and developed the Eversheds’ health and safety review product and has worked with a number of global and UK enterprises to test and review the robustness of their safety management systems. Kevin has then worked with these organisations to put in place effective improvements.

Kevin is a regular lecturer, author and broadcaster on health and safety topics. Since 2013 he has spoken at health and safety conferences in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway and Portugal as well as the UK.

Kevin is retained by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to prosecute health and safety and pollution incidents at sea. He is a member of the North Sea Network of prosecutors.

In the environmental field, Kevin regularly represents organisations under investigation for alleged environmental offences. He has a Masters degree in Environmental Law, with a specific interest in water pollution offences.

Kevin Elliott leads the group nationally from Leeds; he recently acted for a national property management company in an investigation related to the death of a member of the public who was hit by falling shopping centre debris during a storm. Clients also single out the 'brilliant' Paul Verrico, who acted for Tarmac Marine in a prosecution for a breach of Maritime Asbestos legislation; David Young, who is 'excellent' and Tim Hill, who advises energy, chemical and manufacturing clients.

Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP handles a wide range of contentious and non-contentious health and safety work spanning regulatory compliance, investigations and enforcement matters. Leeds-based Kevin Elliott heads the team, which includes Tim Hill, who is the main contact for Newcastle. Hill acts for clients in the chemical, energy, construction, pharmaceutical and manufacturing sectors, advising on Competent Authority inspections and investigations alongside corporate and personal liability issues. In recent work, he assisted Greencore Grocery with police and HSE investigations following a contractor’s fatality, and acted alongside colleagues from the Leeds office for AGC Chemicals Europe in HSE investigations and the subsequent prosecution following allegations that poor quality pipework caused chemical burn injuries to a worker.

Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP's national health and safety practice is headed by Kevin Elliott and handles contentious and non-contentious health and safety matters, including consulting on policy and compliance and advising on training of clients across a broad spectrum of industries. Paul Verrico, based in the Leeds office, led a team representing Tarmac Marine in its prosecution by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency for a breach of Maritime Asbestos legislation. The team achieved a significantly reduced fine for its client in this matter. Additionally, a team led by Newcastle-based Tim Hill represented Greencore Grocery in police and HSE investigations following a contractor fatality. In an example of the practice's advisory work, the team was instructed by a large UK power company in relation to reviewing contracts, procedures and risks.
