Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP's 'market-leading pensions practice' provides 'a first-class service' with 'top-notch strategic guidance, excellent technical breadth and a level of commercialism that cannot be beaten'. On the non-contentious side, Francois Barker, who ‘has the commercial overview to back up the specialist pensions knowledge’, leads the global practice while Jeremy Goodwin, who clients praise as ‘one of the best pensions partners in the City’, heads up the London team. Recent highlights include Goodwin advising the trustees of the General Motors pensions scheme on the switch of its sponsoring employer and assisting the trustees of the BHS Pensions Scheme with the establishment of the BHS2 Pension Scheme following negotiations with Sir Philip Green. Contentious team head Claire Carroll, who is ‘a very authoritative and measured lawyer’, and Jennifer Miles are the key names for pension litigation matters; Miles recently defended Airways Pension Scheme Trustees in High Court proceedings brought by BA challenging the validity of decisions made by the trustees, and represented Barnardo's in its Supreme Court appeal relating to whether the trustees can adopt an index other than RPI. British Airways pensions schemes, P&O Pension Scheme, GE Pension Plan and Deloitte are also clients.
