Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP focuses predominantly on the representation of buy-side clients and it is a leading adviser to authorised funds on their ability to enter into transactions which are compliant with new regulations affecting the derivatives market. Its client base is made up largely of investment funds and pension schemes, which it assists with trading and hedging matters. The practice acts for numerous banks and building societies in balance sheet management and in relation to the treasury products offered to their customers. A key matter from 2017 was the firm's work for Sainsbury’s Pension Scheme, Liverpool Victoria, Nomura and others on updates to collateral documentation in order to be compliant with the new rules for the mandatory exchange of margin. Key partner Richard Batchelor led that work. With senior associate Paul Denham, he also advised banks, building societies, pension schemes and asset managers on the clearing of OTC derivatives. Jonathan Master leads the UK derivatives practice and he assisted American Express Services Europe and other payment services firms with the application of EU regulations to their trading activities. With principal associate Jamie Dunlop, he advised Deutsche Bank on ISDA master agreements with a range of different counterparties.
