Work Department

Emma is a Senior Associate in the London employment team specializing in all aspects of employment law. She is also an immigration specialist, focusing on business immigration.

Emma’s contentious experience includes defending Employment Tribunal claims in a wide variety of areas such as all aspects of discrimination law and whistleblowing, and conducting her own advocacy at both preliminary and full hearings. She also has particular experience of defending large equal pay multiples and gives advice on the enforceability of restrictive covenants and confidentiality obligations, as well as senior executive terminations.

In addition to litigation, Emma regularly advises on all aspects of non-contentious employment law, including drafting, and advising on, employment policies, service agreements for senior employees and bonus/incentive arrangements; the employment aspects of corporate transactions, outsourcings and property transactions; advising on redundancies and changes to terms and conditions of employment, and the management of international employment law projects including complex cross-jurisdictional restructures and outsourcings. She also provides day to day advice on all other aspects of employment law such as managing long term sickness absence, disciplinary and grievance processes, and family friendly rights. A confident public speaker, Emma also regularly delivers client training on a wide variety of employment law topics.

In addition to being an employment law specialist, Emma provides advice on all aspects of business immigration including right to work checks, sponsorship issues, obtaining visas for overseas nationals and preparing for immigration audits, as well as the dual employment and immigration law aspects of international assignments.

Emma has advised clients from a range of sectors including the financial services, rail and energy sectors, education institutions and NHS Trusts.

From January to September 2015 Emma spent 9 months on secondment at a major financial institution, advising the bank on all aspects of employment law, including the overlap with financial services regulation. As a result, Emma has developed a particular focus on the financial services sector and has recently provided advice on matters such as the introduction of the Senior Managers’ and Certification Regime as well as the regulatory aspects of financial institutions’ remuneration policies.

Emma speaks a high level of French and German and has an intermediate knowledge of Spanish. In March 2013, she undertook a secondment to the labour law team in Eversheds' Paris office to help promote cross-border working.
