Squire Patton Boggs significantly enhanced its offering with the hire of the 'realistic, commercial and trustworthy' Nick Helm in Manchester from DLA Piper UK LLP and Ian Wood , Rinku Bhadoria and real estate specialist John Danahy in London from King & Wood Mallesons. The team 'is more than willing to go out of its way to get things done' and is one client's 'first port of call for energy and accommodation projects'. The 'very approachable and extremely well-connected' Robin Baillie  teamed up with Philippa Chadwick to lead the advice to Nu-Energy on the delivery of twelve 10MW waste-to-energy plants. In other highlights, the department handled the disposal of an interest in a school building programme, and the Leeds-based James Duckworth is currently assisting a Middle Eastern government with the development of a PPP model for the implementation of a social infrastructure project. Neil Upton , Andrew Herring and Rachel Orton are also recommended by clients. Henry Davey joined the practice as a consultant from Herbert Smith Freehills LLP .

The team advised Warrington Borough Council on its £211m acquisition of a business park and advised Watkin Jones on the forward funding sale of a portfolio of six student development schemes to a new Luxembourg-based investment fund, set up by Generation Estates and Europa Capital. The team also acted for Watkin Jones on the development of a mixed-use scheme in Bournemouth. HB Villages, Create Developments, Bell Developments and Unique Boutique Hotels are also clients of the team, which is headed by Mark Gaffney, who handles a range of property development and regeneration matters, and advises on property joint ventures, public sector funding, leasing, management and portfolio transactions. Jonathan Brooke regularly advises developer clients on strategic land acquisitions and assembly matters and Mark Barker specialises in development work, and has a particular emphasis on complex and strategic regeneration projects.
