Career

He joined BLP team as an associate back in 2011 after serving as Legal Counsel of HSBC Bank. Julio also worked as an associate in a number of law firms including Feinzaig, Scharf & van der Putten, Nassar Abogados and KPMG. In addition, he worked as an intern for the Non-Sovereign Guarantee Section of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington DC.

Education

Julio graduated from Escuela Libre de Derecho University in 2003 and also obtained a Master’s Degree in Banking & Finance Law from Boston University in 2009, working as an intern for both the OAS and the aforementioned University. He also completed training courses on Financial Derivatives at the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA).

BLP represents a wide variety of clients in cutting-edge financing transactions. The practice headed by Vivian Liberman and Andrés López has extensive expertise in credit restructuring and bankruptcy as well as complex litigation, and has recently added anti-money laundering advice to its range of services. The team regularly handles complex transactions for Credit Suisse, for instance acting as local counsel to the client and Citigroup Global Markets, as initial purchasers, in an offering under Rule 144A/Regulation S by Investment Energy Resources. Liberman and associate Julio Castellanos also represented Fondo Latinoamericano de Reservas in a $1bn loan agreement under New York law with the Costa Rican Central Bank. The department also assists Scotiabank, DEG-Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft and Millicom, among other international entities. Other key figures in the team are David Gutiérrez and Luis Hernández.
