Position

Jon Oram is a partner in Proskauer’s Corporate Department and a member of the Sports Law Group. Jon has represented the NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS, ATP Tour and others. Jon advises professional sports teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, New York Yankees, Washington Nationals and others. Jon has counseled a variety of teams and owners seeking to develop sports facilities, and has advised clients on many large naming rights transactions. He represents borrowers and financial institutions in sports-related transactions.

Boasting 'invaluable knowledge and experience' Proskauer Rose LLP's practice 'carries respect in the sports industry'. The New York-based group is jointly led by highly-regarded corporate partner Joseph Leccese, litigator Bradley Ruskin and labor law expert Howard Ganz. It is assisting the New York Islanders with its relocation from Brooklyn to Belmont Park in Elmont, and in another work highlight Leccese and Frank Saviano acted for the Carolina Panthers on the $2.27bn sale of the franchise to David Tepper. A team led by Bart Williams and Scott Cooper, both based in Los Angeles, is representing college athletic conference defendants (which includes the Pac 12, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC) in multi-district antitrust litigation challenging the legality of NCAA amateurism rules in collegiate football and men’s and women’s basketball. Jon H Oram is leading advice to the Los Angeles 2028 Organizing Committee on preparations to host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, in addition to heading a team that is assisting FC Barcelona with the proposed sale of the naming rights to the Camp Nou stadium. The practice also counts the big four leagues among its clients; it is acting for the National Football League (NFL) in gender discrimination harassment and minimum wage litigation.

New York partner Martin Hamilton is acting for a consortium led by BTG Pactual’s Timberland Investment Group in the cash acquisition of Weyerhaeuser Company’s business in Uruguay for $402.5m. Meanwhile, Jon H Oram and Amanda Nussbaum are providing strategic tax advice in connection to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Boston-based Arnold May advised long-term clients Ares Management, Atlas Holdings and PineBridge Investments on their investment activities and fund formations, including Ares Corporate Opportunities Fund V, Ares Capital Europe III and the formation of PineBridge Secondary Partners IV. Also recommended are ‘excellent’ Stuart Rosow and David Miller. Investment funds lawyer Jeremy Naylor joined the New York team from Cooley LLP in April 2018, while in Boston, Alec Campbell and Marguerite Lombardo left for Kirkland & Ellis LLP. All named individuals are based in New York.
