Steven Lichtenfeld is a partner and co-head of the Real Estate Capital Markets and Real Estate Finance Groups. He advises financial institutions, investment banking firms, real estate funds, institutional lenders, specialty lenders, hedge funds, REITs and pension advisors regarding public offerings and other corporate, partnership and limited liability company matters. He is involved in fund formation, including funds that involve innovative structures that allow investors flexible, tax-efficient investment vehicles. He represents real estate funds and sovereign wealth funds in all stages of private equity investments and advises both underwriters and issuers in REIT IPOs and follow-on offerings.

Its client base includes sovereign wealth funds, institutional and specialty lenders, developers, private equity real estate funds, investment banks, pension funds and REITs. Practice co-head Ronald Sernau advised Extell Development on the $1.3bn financing for the construction of Central Park Tower in New York City. Private equity specialist Jeffrey Horwitz and M&A specialist Daniel Ganitsky recently acted for Morgan Stanley as financial advisor to Starwood Waypoint on its $20bn merger with Invitation Homes. Newly promoted partner Paul Polking advised Vornado Realty Trust on its $442m acquisition of Host Hotels & Resorts’ interest in two commercial condominium units in the New York Marriott Marquis hotel. Steven Lichtenfeld was lead partner for Urban Commons on various matters including a $650m consolidation of 10 hotel properties. Horrowitz, Perry Cacace and Los Angeles-based Douglas Frank acted for Rubicon on the acquisition and redevelopment of hotel properties in New York, New Jersey and St. Croix. Christopher Pennington is also recommended. Al Stemp joined as partner from Hogan Lovells US LLP and Don Melamed joined as partner from O'Melveny & Myers LLP in the Los Angeles office. Other clients include Accor, Empire City Casino, Morgan Stanley and SL Green. All named attorneys are based in New York unless otherwise stated.

Proskauer Rose LLP advises REITs investing in the US and internationally in asset classes such as office, retail, lodging, healthcare and single-family homes as well as data centers, industrial, and self-storage facilities. American Finance Trust, American Realty Capital Healthcare Trust III and New York REIT are clients. New York-based Peter Fass and Steven Lichtenfeld co-head the real estate capital markets group; Lichtenfeld led advice to New York REIT in the approximately $1.72bn sale of a 48% stake in Manhattan's One Worldwide Plaza to SL Green Realty and RXR Realty. In the non-traded space, Fass and Michael Choate in Chicago acted for Healthcare Trust (HT) and American Realty Capital Healthcare Trust III in HT's $120m acquisition of the assets of affiliated non-traded REIT, ARCHT. Leslie Loffman retired from the practice.
