Boasting 'invaluable knowledge and experience' Proskauer Rose LLP's practice 'carries respect in the sports industry'. The New York-based group is jointly led by highly-regarded corporate partner Joseph Leccese, litigator Bradley Ruskin and labor law expert Howard Ganz. It is assisting the New York Islanders with its relocation from Brooklyn to Belmont Park in Elmont, and in another work highlight Leccese and Frank Saviano acted for the Carolina Panthers on the $2.27bn sale of the franchise to David Tepper. A team led by Bart Williams and Scott Cooper, both based in Los Angeles, is representing college athletic conference defendants (which includes the Pac 12, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and ACC) in multi-district antitrust litigation challenging the legality of NCAA amateurism rules in collegiate football and men’s and women’s basketball. Jon H Oram is leading advice to the Los Angeles 2028 Organizing Committee on preparations to host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, in addition to heading a team that is assisting FC Barcelona with the proposed sale of the naming rights to the Camp Nou stadium. The practice also counts the big four leagues among its clients; it is acting for the National Football League (NFL) in gender discrimination harassment and minimum wage litigation.

The labor and employment department at Proskauer Rose LLP has a strong market reputation and is praised for 'always focusing on the clients' best interest'. Led by the experienced Elise Bloom and Neil Abramson, the team is regularly engaged by corporates, universities, sport leagues, and other law firms. Bloom, Howard Ganz and Adam Lupion represent the Major League Baseball (MLB) in an ongoing wage-and-hour putative class action brought by minor league baseball players alleging violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act and various state wage-and-hour laws before the Ninth Circuit. Lupion and Joseph Baumgarten acted for the National Hockey League (NHL) when, after more than five years of litigation, the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the parents of a former player was dismissed. Nigel Telman in Chicago, who has 'an exceptional approach and is customer focused', acts for McDonald's in various matters. The impressive client portfolio also includes UBS, the NFL and MetLife. Mark Batten in Boston settled a class action case for Harvard University in connection with the challenging of independent contractor status. Los Angeles' Anthony Oncidi is particularly active in the entertainment industry. Further recommended individuals are Bettina Plevan, Allan Bloom, Lloyd Chinn, Steven Hurd, Kathleen McKenna, John Barry, and Evandro Gigante. Chicago's key contact is Steven Pearlman and Newark's Lawrence Sandak and Joseph O’Keefe. Special counsel Jurate Schwartz in Boca Raton, Guy Brenner in Washington DC, Keisha-Ann Gray and counsel Rachel Philion are also noted. Harris Mufson made partner in November 2018. The practice lost its former head Connie Bertram to Polsinelli PC in September 2018. Named attorneys are based in New York except where indicated otherwise.
