Pete Stone, a partner in the Litigation practice of Paul Hastings, is co-chair of the firm’s Securities Litigation practice and serves as chair of the Palo Alto Office’s Litigation department. Mr. Stone has significant experience in complex business litigation, in both federal and state jurisdictions, with a primary emphasis on securities, shareholder, consumer/products liability, professional negligence, health care and other class action and "big ticket" commercial matters. Mr. Stone's securities litigation practice includes the representation of corporations, mutual funds, officers and directors, securities brokerage firms, accounting firms, and investors in the prosecution and defense of class actions involving claims under the federal securities laws, state fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, derivative and securities claims, and governmental investigations.

Paul Hastings LLP has significant litigation capability on both coasts, as well as in other key centres such as Houston and Chicago. It frequently acts for leading financial institutions in deal-related litigation and recently handled two key cases for Goldman Sachs. The first saw the firm handle a $50m claim in the New York State Supreme Court arising from GS Group’s investment in financial services research provider Netologic, Inc. The second case saw fellow co-chair Peter Stone in Palo Alto represent the client in its role as financial adviser to Amazon, Inc in matters arising from its $13.7bn acquisition of Whole Foods Market. Veteran litigator William Sullivan in Los Angeles handled a $500m case for Vance Street Capital as seller in a post-acquisition dispute with Precision Castparts Corporation. Samuel Cooper in Houston is also recommended. Douglas Flaum joined Goodwin.

The firm's client base includes leading investment banks such as Barclays, JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs, for which it handles cases involving complex financial instruments and regulatory matters. Samsung and Dole Foods are among its many blue-chip corporate clients. Peter Stone in Palo Alto leads the securities litigation practice. Flaum represented the underwriters of ReWalk Robotics’ IPO in obtaining the dismissal of cases concerning the adequacy of its offering documents. New York-based global chair of litigation Barry Sher secured the dismissal of a class action against  FIM Advisors that arose from Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme. Wiliam Sullivan in Los Angeles is also recommended. Douglas Flaum in New York joined Goodwin in 2019.
