Position

"The much-admired Andrew Marovitz focuses on antitrust litigation and complex commercial litigation and wins praise from sources as ‘a thoughtful, measured and extremely polished courtroom performer.'" Chambers USA 2011 As one of the firm’s Practice Leaders for the Mayer Brown Litigation Group worldwide, Andy Marovitz is a trial lawyer who concentrates on antitrust litigation and complex commercial litigation. He has represented national and multinational corporations in monopolization, attempted monopolization, price fixing, market allocation and conspiracy cases. He represented BASF Corporation in In re Vitamin Antitrust Litigation, one of the largest price fixing cases ever filed. He also counsels clients on general antitrust issues and represents companies faced with significant litigation. Andy is listed in the Best Lawyers in America and in Who’s Who Legal as an “extremely well known” attorney who devotes substantial time to high-profile cartel litigation. Legal 500 2009 adds that he is "recognized as 'a star of the antitrust bar'" with "a focus on big-ticket litigation." He is a “‘formidable opponent … strong in terms of his substantive knowledge’ with ‘a lot of credibility with judges.’” Chambers USA 2008. He has also been named one of Benchmark’s Antitrust National, Antitrust Illinois and General Commercial Illinois Litigation Stars (2012). In addition to his civil practice, Andy has handled a number of criminal price fixing matters pursued by various DOJ field offices. The February 2004 edition of the UK-based Global Competition Review identified him as a young antitrust lawyer to watch. Prior to joining Mayer Brown, he clerked for the Honorable Richard D. Cudahy of the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Mayer Brown’s practice is led by Mark Ryan, who was the first-ever director of litigation at the DOJ’s Antitrust Division. The team has an excellent record of securing summary judgments and appellate victories at US federal and state level. Andrew Marovitz and Britt Miller, who are located in Chicago, are defending Lear Corporation against direct, indirect and public entity purchaser putative class actions connected with alleged price-fixing and bid-rigging by manufacturers of automotive wire harnesses and related components. Elsewhere, litigated merger challenges are another pillar of the practice; William Stallings, Ryan and others acted for CNH Industrial as the initial complainant in the DOJ’s lawsuit against Deere & Company’s proposed acquisition of Precision Planting from Monsanto. Other notable practitioners include Carmine Zarlenga and Adam Hudes. Named lawyers are based in Washington DC, except where otherwise noted.
