The well-respected Hoang Anh Nguyen heads the team, which has been advising Vinashin (Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group) on its proposed corporate and debt restructuring via a $600m unsecured loan. Other clients include HSBC, Standard Chartered, J.P. Morgan, Vinacom (National Coal, Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Ltd) and PetroVietnam Finance Corporation.

Mayer Brown JSM’s comprehensive capital markets practice has particular expertise with debt-side instructions. The team recently acted as counsel for VietinBank (Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade) on its $500m international bond issuance, the first of several issuances totalling $2bn. HSBC and Barclays Capital are acting as the arrangers and proceeds will be used to fund the Nghi Son oil refinery project. Practice head Hoang Anh Nguyen is a talented and widely respected capital markets expert. Mai Phuong Nguyen is also recommended.     On 6/20/2012, the National Assembly voted to adopt the Law on Price (the "LOP") in response to the public demand for an effective legal framework to control price manipulation from dominant enterprises such as gasoline, electricity, etc. The law will take effect from 01/01/2013 and repeal Ordinance No. 40/2002/PL-UBTVQH10 dated 26/4/2002 of the National Assembly Standing Committee (the "Ordinance"), which is conceived as outdated and containing certain provisions contravening the WTO’s regulation. This article describes the main features of the law and provides some insight into its potential impacts on the Vietnamese economy.
