John Mancini is a Partner in Mayer Brown's New York office and Co-Chair of the Firm's Global Intellectual Property Practice Group, which has been ranked as one of the leading IP Practice groups globally. In addition, John is also a member of the Firm's Partnership Board. John's practice focuses on litigating patent, copyright, trademark, trade dress and trade secret disputes in federal and state courts across the country, as well as before the ITC, USPTO, and TTAB. John has represented both public and private companies in a wide range of industries and has successfully tried numerous complex intellectual property cases to successful bench and jury verdicts, all as lead counsel. In particular, John has represented some of the leading technology, media and telecom companies, as well as some of the leading global consumer brands, including: Google, Motorola Mobility, YouTube, Virgin Media, Nestlé, Kellogg, and Avago Technologies. John has been at the forefront of numerous disputes that have shaped intellectual property law, especially disputes involving the convergence of new media, the internet, and new technologies. For his various litigation victories for notable clients in these areas, John was named an "Intellectual Property MVP" by Law360 in 2013. John's experience as lead counsel in numerous complex matters and exposure to a wide variety of intellectual property issues affecting his clients has also enabled him to successfully resolve matters expeditiously and consensually on behalf of his clients. In addition, John works with clients on intellectual property counseling and transactional matters, frequently advising clients in connection with their overall IP protection and brand-building strategies, including licensing, disposition, and securitization of intellectual property assets. John also regularly advises clients, particularly financial institutions and insurance companies, on compliance with privacy and security obligations relating to the storage, maintenance, and transfer of non-public personal information, and on minimizing liability for unauthorized access to such information, including identity theft. John is ranked as one of the "leading lawyers" for trade secret litigation by the Legal 500 and is also ranked in New York Super Lawyers, Managing Intellectual Property and IAM 1000. John has been recognized by Legal 500 as: "very professional and ready to spend all the time he can give to the case"; "approachable and experienced"; "an excellent negotiator and advocate" and "is praised for his 'very deep experience, on both traditional and contemporary copyright issues'".

Mayer Brown’s team regularly represents content distributors in disputes with copyright owners and has significant expertise in online and digital distribution channels. The team recently defended Spotify in class action copyright litigation in which the plaintiffs alleged the client had failed to pay proper royalties to songwriters, securing a more favorable settlement than initially anticipated. The firm is also representing Nestlé and Scotia Bank as defendants in separate copyright infringement claims. Mayer Brown focuses on the technology and life sciences sectors, flanked by expertise in the telecoms and consumer goods industries. Alan Grimaldi in Washington DC, New York’s Lisa Ferri and Gabriela Kennedy in Hong Kong direct the practice. In Washington DC, appellate expert Andrew Pincus led the successful representation of Impression Products in a much-publicised Supreme Court case regarding the patent owner’s right to post-sale product control. The team also acted as co-lead for plaintiffs Gilead Sciences and Emory University in Hatch-Waxman litigation against Mylan, involving patents on blockbuster HIV drug Truvada. Additionally, the group assisted LG Electronics with an international arbitration against Nokia regarding FRAND rates for patents on cellular standards.
