Juan Carlos Rocha focuses his legal practice on Corporate / M&A and Real Estate, with ample experience in real estate, corporate, commercial and large scale transactions. He is a recognized expert in real estate matters, according to the most prestigious publications, and has represented Colombian and international clients on corporate, commercial and real estate matters, concerning important projects in Colombia. Juan Carlos was in charge of the coordination of the entire expansion plan of Carrefour in Colombia, including the acquisition and implementation of stores, malls, commercial premises and fuelling stations. He was also in charge of the structuring, commercialization and implementation of the Santafé Mall in Bogotá, Santafé in Medellín, Multicentro Cúcuta and the Santa Ana Mall in Bogotá, and is currently advising, among others, the expansion plans of the Parque Arauco, Drummond Ltd., Anglo Gold Ashanti, Gramalote Limited, and other companies dedicated to urban, rural and agro-industry real estate projects. He also has extensive experience advising consumer goods companies, particularly those devoted to food production for both human and animal consumption. He has been a professor of civil law at the Universidad del Rosario (1992) and a frequent lecturer on corporate law and energy law in Colombia. Prior to joining the Firm he was in-house counsel to the 32nd Public Notary in Bogotá (1988), the legal director of Fondo DRI of the Colombian Ministry of Agriculture (1991), and in-house counsel to the company Acerías Paz del Río S.A.(1992). He has lectured on Corporate Law and Energy Law in Colombia. Chambers Latin America 2016 mentions:“ Sources single out Juan Carlos Rocha in this field for "his quick understanding of the needs of the business and swift finding of solutions, his strength in transactional matters linked to real estate M&A, and his excellent attention to the client." Another client notes his "wide knowledge of real estate and excellent capacity of negotiation of contracts."”

The practice covers corporate structuring, commercial contracts, public offerings, the formation of equity funds, and national and international M&A. Juan Carlos Rocha led advice to Canadian company Brookfield on its $2.1bn acquisition of a 57.6% stake in recently privatised power corporation ISAGEN, followed by the $1bn purchase of an additional 26.2% stake. Claudia Barrero acted for Medellín-based Grupo Argos on its acquisition of an additional 43.8% interest in ODINSA, involving an exchange tender offer paid in cash and preferred shares. Felipe Cuberos advised Danone group on its sale to Alqueria of its stake in their Colombian joint venture Danone Alqueria, and also on licensing issues relating to the Activia and Nutriday brands. Tax specialist Martín Acero, Hernando Padilla and Nicolás Tirado are other active members of the practice.
