Marta Delgado's practice is focused on EU, antitrust, and intellectual property law. She co-heads the competition practice in the Madrid Office. Her experience includes advising clients in matters related to state aids, mergers, agreements, abuse of dominant position, and unfair competition. Marta also heads the Intellectual Property Practice in Madrid and represents clients in complex patent infringement, utility models, and plant varieties proceedings before the national courts and the Court of Justice of the EU. She also advises in transactional operations and settlements. Marta has represented clients such as Apple, Baxter, Bulgari, Burger King, Celgene, Coach, Disa, Dole Foods, EDF, Endesa, Orange, P&G, The Riverside Corporation, sanofi-aventis, Ses Astra, Thyssen Krupp, Toys "R" Us, Vista Capital, Voest, and Yamaha Corporation. Recently she represented P&G in its acquisition of the Sara Lee Air Care division, Dole Foods in the European Commission's investigation of the Southern Europe exotic fruit market, and Centrica Energía before the Spanish Supreme Court. Marta is an associate professor of competition law and a member of the Board of Professors of the Master's in European Law at University Carlos III of Madrid. Marta is active in not for profit associations for the advancement of professional women. She is currently VP and secretary of the board of PWN Global, a nonprofit association of women professionals active in 24 countries worldwide. Marta has collaborated on various books and frequently writes and lectures on various topics related to her practice.

  • US rules regarding offshore accounts

    The Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act 2010, enacted on 18 March 2010, imposes a new US withholding tax and reporting regime, known as the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). The FATCA regime applies generally to payments made after 31 December 2012, except on obligations (to be defined in future guidance) outstanding on 18 March 2012. Substantial effort is required by foreign entities to bring their worldwide operations and policies into compliance with the FATCA rules as of the effective date.
