Career

Joanne Gray is co-chair of the firm’s Food and Healthy Living Practice. Ms. Gray’s industry-focused practice concentrates in the consumer products area, including FDA regulated companies in the food and beverage, dietary supplement, pharmaceutical and medical device, and technology industries. She provides compliance advice and handles litigation for clients in these highly regulated industries. Ms. Gray is chair of the firm’s Specialty Litigation Group and its Products Liability & Mass Torts Practice. Her litigation practice involves defending companies in high profile products liability, class actions, consumer fraud and mass tort claims.

Goodwin handles class actions, product liability lawsuits, product labeling and recall matters and is particularly active in the food and beverages industry. The team is headed by Joanne Gray, who continues to represent seafood company Bumble Bee Foods in a series of lawsuits across the country, and recently defeated a putative class action alleging deceptive labeling. Together with Glenn Kerner, Gray also acts as national counsel to longstanding client Herbalife in all product liability cases. Litigator Forrest Hainline in San Francisco and Nilda Isidro are other standout figures. All named partners are based in New York, unless otherwise stated.

Headed by Joanne Gray in New York, Goodwin’s product liability and mass torts litigation practice is particularly experienced in trial work and risk mitigation. In one recent highlight, Boston-based Richard Oetheimer obtained a conditional national settlement of several thousand metoclopramide cases filed against longstanding client Teva Pharmaceuticals. In New York, Glenn Kerner continues to represent Teva in a product liability lawsuit, in which the plaintiff claims that her husband suffered catastrophic injury as a result of exposure to the client’s anesthesia Propofol. Sarah Frederick in Boston is another key figure in the department.

Goodwin’s product liability and mass torts practice is headed by Joanne Gray in New York and distinguishes itself through vast experience in asbestos-related cases. Led by Washington DC-based William Hanlon, the team continues to represent Dana Companies in personal injury and wrongful death claims related to asbestos, and recently obtained dismissal of hundreds of cases due to lack of personal jurisdiction. In Boston, Mark Tully continues to defend longstanding client Gulf Oil and Cumberland Farms in MBTE litigation, in which plaintiffs allege that the gasoline additive potentially contaminates drinking water. The firm’s client base also includes CNA, Center For Claims Resolution and Teva. Boston-based Richard Oetheimer and Mark Tully are other key figures in the department.
