Gardere Wynne Sewell’s internet, e-commerce, and technology team advises clients with activities in regional, national, and global markets. Led by Peter Vogel in Dallas, who wins clients’ praise for ‘his legal expertise, his knowledge of our business and market and his responsiveness to our needs’, it advises web and software development companies, internet hosts, manufacturers of computer chips and communications technology, biotechnology and medical devices and customers of these and other internet-based services, notably social media. Highlights included representing longstanding client the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) in its eGovernment portal contract negotiations and management and assisting Health Language with licensing its software to customers worldwide.

Gardere Wynne Sewell is ‘very responsive and worth the dollars charged’. Key matters included assisting Precision Pipeline, a pipeline construction pipeline company, in its sale to MasTec; the practice has represented Ennis Paint for numerous years. Recently, Ennis was assisted in the acquisition of Pervo Paint Company and all of the stock of GT Industries. The team also represented Brazos Equity Partners in the purchase of certain assets of Flint Trading, and acted for Trican Well Service in its purchase of certain assets of Vanguard Stimulation Services. Houston co-M&A chair Daniel Cohen is the reason some clients uses the firm. ‘Cohen has the ability to understand both sides of the negotiations and to know when something is worthy of a fight or not. Additionally, he is good with our counterparts’ attorneys, and he understands our needs and factors them into his service’.

Kevin Kelley chairs Gardere Wynne Sewell’s real estate group, which is based across several offices in Texas but serves clients across the US. The team provides development, acquisition, disposition, financing, leasing and operation and management advice; it has a strong hospitality practice. The team is representing Western Hospitality on all phases of activity for a number of new or existing Marriott and Hilton branded hotels throughout the Southwest and Midwest. It is also advising The Gencom Group on its acquisition of construction debt from an affiliate of Danske Bank relating to the partly completed Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage hotel and residential project in Rancho Mirage, California. Randall Jones is advising Arts Center Enterprises on its renovation and restoration of the King’s Theatre in Brooklyn, New York, which is funded by a grant from New York City as well as state and federal tax credits.
