Mr. Ansbacher is a corporate partner, resident in the Firm’s Washington, DC office. His practice focuses on the formation and structuring of investment funds, joint venture arrangements and alternative investments. Extensive experience in global private equity funds. Represents sponsors of, cornerstone and other institutional investors in formation of hedge funds, real estate funds, "hybrid" funds, funds-of-funds, and investment management companies.

Significantly, he has worked extensively with Permira, the European-headquartered buyout fund advisors, which over the years has formed some of the then-largest buyout funds raised by a European group.  He also regularly works on various fund products and fund investments for Goldman Sachs, including representing Goldman Sachs International as placement agent for private equity and related products.  Other unique investment products on which he has advised include a Brazilian real estate development fund, a Japanese buyout fund, an Asian real estate fund, a Colombian oil and gas exploration fund and a global infrastructure fund.


Mr. Ansbacher received his LLM from New York University School of Law in 1984, his JD from the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law in 1983 (Cum laude, Editor, Law Review, Order of the Coif) and his BS from the University of Florida in 1979 (Cum laude)

Kenneth Rosh (for many, one of the ‘top fund formation lawyers in the industry’) and ‘rising star’ Gerald Brown advised Bain Capital Private Equity, a cornerstone client, on forming Bain XII, which closed with commitments of $9.4bn. Rosh and Rebecca Neuschatz Zelenka, who is based in Washington DC, also advised Bain Capital Credit on forming a life sciences fund. Richard Ansbacher acts for Permira and Permira Debt Managers, advising them on a €7.5bn buyout fund and a €1.7bn debt fund respectively. Jeremy Berry, who is active for clients such as StepStone Group, joined from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. The team was also bolstered by the recruitment of special counsel Garret Filler and senior counsel John Liftin from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP and D E Shaw’s in-house team respectively. Special counsel Matthew Howard joined the Washington DC office from Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. All named individuals are based in New York unless otherwise stated.
