Illustrative of Crowell & Moring LLP’s strengths in large-scale and complex antitrust litigation, it is representing eight Blue Cross Blue Shield companies in an MDL, which consists of more than 20 class action cases nationwide. Shari Lahlou is defending DuPont in class action litigation arising from an alleged price-fixing conspiracy in the titanium dioxide industry. Also recommended are Jason Murray - who chairs the antitrust practice with Lalou - and Jordan Ludwig (both in Los Angeles), who are representing KOA Corporation and KOA Speer Electronics in several price-fixing class actions brought by direct and indirect purchasers of resistors. Crowell & Moring LLP’s antitrust team is at the front end of many headline multibillion-dollar mergers and acquisitions. Shawn Johnson and Joseph Miller were key advisers to Humana (as part of the firm’s role as the lead counsel to the client) regarding the DOJ investigation and challenge of its $37bn merger with Aetna. Wm. Randolph Smith, Johnson, New York-based attorney Olivier Antoine and others are acting as antitrust counsel to AT&T in its merger with Time Warner; the DOJ has filed a lawsuit to block the transaction. In addition, Megan Wolf, Antoine and Mary Anne Mason assisted TransCanada with obtaining FTC clearance for its $13bn acquisition of Columbia Pipeline Group. The practice has gone from strength to strength, with New York-based practitioner Juan Arteaga (the former deputy assistant attorney general for civil enforcement at the DOJ’s Antitrust Division) and Alexis Gilman (most recently serving as the assistant director at the Mergers IV Division of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition) joining the team. The group defended Health Net Federal Services in litigation concerning two healthcare contracts worth $58bn for managed care services for the western region of the US. In another example, the team successfully assisted AT&T with the acquisition of a $46.5bn contract to build a nationwide public safety broadband network for first responders. In another matter, the group advised Accenture Federal Services on government contract matters pertaining to its acquisition of three cybersecurity companies. Daniel Forman and Peter Eyre co-chair the practice, which includes David Robbins, who specializes in investigations, suspension and debarment, and Robert Burton, who combines public procurement and public policy expertise.
