Work Department

Intellectual property, litigation and trial, life sciences, media and entertainment law.

Jan-Diederik has almost two decades experience defending his clients’ interests in ex parte, preliminary and permanent injunction proceedings, and in accelerated and standard proceedings on the merits. Issues dealt with relate to e.g., patents, trademarks, copyright, design, trade secrets, and unfair competition. Although adversarial court proceedings are his forte, Jan-Diederik is frequently consulted by clients in pre-trial matters (such as pre-trial discovery, trade secrets compliance and anti-counterfeiting strategy). He also advises on non-contentious matters relating to licensing or transfer of intellectual property, (re)structuring IP portfolios, joint ventures and other types of creative/technological collaboration. Jan-Diederik
represents a wide range of clients most of whom are active in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnological sectors, or the advertising, media, entertainment, and fashion industries. His focus is on complex and strategical legal advice that has an immediate impact on his clients’ business (e.g., product recall avoidance or opposition proceedings in relation to access to confidential information). Thanks to his involvement in various international and cross-border matters, Jan-Diederik has an impressive global network and is often invited to act as lead attorney in multijurisdictional matters. 'The premier firm for pharmaceutical patent litigation',  according to one client, the life sciences group at Crowell & Moring attracts praise for its 'significant experience and a great feeling for how the courts will react to a submission'. The group represented Mylan and Sandoz before the Court of Appeal, securing the lifting of an injunction on the clients' sale of Tadalafil. The 'vastly experienced' Kristof Roox, who 'is fantastic as an advocate and not afraid to roll up his sleeves and get stuck in', heads the practice, which includes Jan-Diederik Lindemans, who is singled out for his 'abundant experience and deep analyses', and was bolstered by the arrival of IP-focused senior counsel Gunther Meyer from Eversheds Sutherland (Belgium) CVBA (a member of Eversheds Sutherland). Senior associate Jurgen Figys is another name to note. Other changes to the team include the arrival of Evelina Roegiers from Loyens & Loeff and the departure of Christian Dekoninck to Taylor Wessing.
