Career

Bruno has more than 13 years’ experience in competition/antitrust, including notifications of M&As and associative contracts to the Brazilian antitrust authorities, international and local cartels, and abuse of dominant position. Also negotiating leniency agreements, Cease and Desist Agreements (TCCs) and Agreements on Concentration Control (ACCs) as well as implementing and reviewing compliance programs. Bruno is a former associate at Howrey LLP (Brussels), where he worked on competition issues.

Also, he is a Council Member of the Brazilian Institute of Studies of Competition, Consumption and International Trade (IBRAC); Member of the Competition Law Commission (CECORE); and Coordinator of the Competition Law Commission of the Law Firms Center of Studies (CESA).

Education

He is PhD in Commercial Law with major in Competition Law from USP, earned a LL.M. in Competition Law from King’s College of London and is post-graduated in Finance Administration from FIA/FEA.

Demarest Advogados’ competition team handles a regular workload of merger filings, cartel investigations, abuse of dominance investigations, and compliance training. It also has experience in antitrust-related litigation. Recent highlights include acting as deal counsel to AkzoNobel and BASF in relation to the former’s acquisition of the latter’s industrial coatings business, which was approved by CADE without restrictions; Bruno Drago led the team, which included senior associate Milena Fernandes Mundim. The highly experienced Paola Pugliese co-heads the department alongside Drago, and acts for leading Brazilian and multinational companies in high-profile cases and mergers. Senior associate Paula Salles is another active member of the team. As we go to press, the firm has announced the hire of Daniel Andreoli; with over 17 years' experience, he is the current President of the Antitrust Section of the Brazilian Bar Association (CECORE/OAB-SP) and CADE’s non-governmental advisor regarding events of the International Competition Network (ICN).

Among its recent transactional highlights, Thiago Barbosa Sandim advised Deere & Company on the acquisition of German-headquartered company Wirtgen Group. In other global deals, the highly rated Luciana Cossermelli Tornovsky advised Dell EMC on the Brazilian aspects of the $1.62bn sale of its enterprise content division to Open Text Corporation. Lucas Tavares Bueno, Paulo Coelho da Rocha, Gonçalo Capela Godinho, Ana Carolina Botto Audi, Thiago Rodrigues Maia and the ‘very experienced and hands-on’ José Setti Diaz are other names to note. 2018 saw Joyl Gondim and Guilherme Vieira da Silva join from Azevedo Sette Advogados and Tauil & Chequer Advogados in association with Mayer Brown, respectively.
