Thiago Sandim specializes in M&A and worked on some of the most important Brazilian M&A and PE deals of the last decade, which includes, in 2015 and 2016, the advisory in GIC's BRL6 billion Rede D'Or acquisition, Generali's USD1.7 billion sale of BSI and Odebrecht's BRL17.2 billion JV with Mitsui. He regularly advises sovereign wealth funds, Brazilian and global financial institutions and companies (such as Vinci Concessions, GIC, OTPP, PSP, BTG Pactual, and Odebrecht) and sits on boards of directors. Partner since 2013. Former partner/associate at Linklaters (2002-13) and Pinheiro Neto (1997-2002).

Benefiting from strong demand for asset-backed agribusiness and real estate securitisations, Demarest Advogados was very active in 2016. It advised new client Ambev on a public offering of debentures worth R$1bn, and assisted Monsanto in the offering of an agribusiness receivables certificate worth BR$315m. The firm covers the full range of capital markets matters, including the structuring of funds, with recent examples including Votorantim Asset Management’s FIP Nova Raposo. Thiago Giantomassi Medeiros’ 11-strong team includes the ‘knowledgeable and business-savvyThiago Sandim and junior partner Denise Okimura.

In 2016, it was active in M&A in a number of sectors of the economy, including banking, infrastructure and agriculture. The firm’s regional desks also ensure a steady flow of instructions from clients in foreign jurisdictions, with the department’s Asian and Iberian desks being particularly active. Among its recent highlights, Thiago Barbosa Sandim acted for Vinci Group on the €1.5bn acquisition of Lamsac and Pex Perú, the largest toll road M&A in Brazil in 2016.
