Position

Managing partner Underwoods Solicitors. Responsible for the day-to-day decisions on risk management at the firm. Deals with employment and commercial litigation and has advised on plc takeovers. Has a wide range of advocacy experience, including appearing at employment tribunals, magistrates’ and county court trials. He has brought actions for stress claims representing the successful claimant in Dickins v 02 plc and claims against Premier League football clubs. Recently developed an increasing family law practice dealing with high-net-worth individuals. As a director of Law Abroad Ltd, is involved in lecturing and offshoring legal work to South Africa.

Career

Qualified as solicitor 1989; assistant Underwoods 1991; equity partner 1997; managing partner. Has conducted a wide variety of in-house lectures and seminars on personal injury, employment and management issues, including lecturing on regulatory issues for CLT. Has lectured on commercial and property matters, sports injury law and on the compulsory risk assessment course for the Law Society’s personal injury panel, as well as for local law societies; has conducted interviews for television, radio and the press.

  • THE NEW PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP LEGISLATION IS ADOPTED IN UKRAINE

    On 26 July the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych signed the Law “On the Foundations of Cooperation of the State with Private Partners” (the “Law”) which was adopted by the Ukrainian Parliament on 1 July to establish a framework for public-private partnership (“PPP”) in Ukraine. In May 2009 the Parliament already adopted the framework law on PPP, which, however, was later set aside.

  • Employers’ age discrimination of under-18s legal

    On 30 June 2010, the Danish Eastern High Court established that the provisions and the practice on a number of areas covered by collective agreements, supporting a lower pay for employees under 18 years and termination of the employees when they turn 18, cannot be deemed to constitute a violation of the Employment Equality Directive (Directive 2000/78/EC of 27 November 2000).
