Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr. e Quiroga Advogados has a broad banking and finance practice including regulatory matters and project finance. It recently advised Goldman Sachs and Fortress Investment Group on a cross-border, multi-currency transaction involving the increase of Nubank’s credit line to R$455m; Renato Schermann Ximenes de Melo led the advice on this, and also assisted Visa in developing an internal regulatory framework concerning authorisation proceedings for payment schemes and card networks. Having ‘excellent negotiator’ Marina Anselmo Schneider as an adviser ‘makes a difference in a complex finance deal’, and project finance expert Pablo Sorj is ‘particularly good’. Also recommended are Alex Hatanaka, who specialises in administrative proceedings, and José Eduardo Carneiro Queiroz.

It was further strengthened in 2017 by the promotion to partner of capital markets and restructuring specialist Frederico Kerr Bullamah. Its work highlights included representing Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias e Participações in the restructuring of debt with Itaú Unibanco and Banco Bradesco, with Bruno Mastriani Simões Tuca leading the advice. Marcelo Ricupero, Marina Anselmo Schneider and Alex Hatanaka are also key figures in the team.

Among the team’s highlights in 2017, it acting as special Brazilian counsel to JSL on an issuance of $325m worth of senior notes; and advised sugar and ethanol producer São Martinho on a public offering of agribusiness receivables, with the ‘committed’ Bruno Mastriani Simões Tuca leading the advice on this.
