Akhil Markanday - Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP

Within: Property litigation

The team at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP sits ‘at the top of the pile’ following the merger between legacy firms Berwin Leighton Paisner and Bryan Cave. Akhil Markanday took over as practice head from the ‘hugely experienced’ Wendy Miller and ‘masterfully knowledgeable’ Roger Cohen who both remain active. The group excels in rating law, rights of light work and rent reviews and is praised for its ‘partner-led approach’, which is supplemented by ‘good use of junior and support members to maximise efficiency’. Cohen recently deployed his ‘specific and learned expertise’ in the Court of Appeal, representing Tesco in a case related to the rates liabilities arising from ATM machines. In a further highlight, Markanday is advising Heathrow Airport in regard to the occupation of sites adjacent to the airport by a protest group.  Newly promoted partner Rashpal Soomal is also recommended, as is Michael Metliss for his work on asset management issues.
