What we say about the firm's legal practice in United Arab Emirates
Banking and finance
Within Banking and finance, tier 4
Baker Botts L.L.P. uses its ‘solid background and pragmatic approach to go beyond what the law says, and offer opinions that are more commercial and solution-oriented’. The firm added intellectual horsepower to its UAE office by relocating Robert Jordan, former US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and hiring Vincent Mulvey from the former Denton Wilde Sapte, moves that went some way to alleviating concerns over the office’s depth. Nigel Thompson led the team advising Saudi Electricity Company on its IPP development programme.
Corporate and M&A
Within Corporate and M&A, tier 5
Baker Botts L.L.P. displays ‘exceptional depth of strength across the various legal disciplines’. It is advising Abu Dhabi Investment Council on its $52m investment in an Iraqi oil field services company. Other notable work includes advising Abu Dhabi Health Services on its commercial contracts for facilities in the UAE, while other clients include Saudi Electricity Company and Mitsubishi. Gregory Golden is recommended – his ‘strength lies in his legal knowledge, accessibility, communication skills and follow-through’.
Projects and energy
Within Projects and energy , Baker Botts L.L.P. is a second tier firm,
Baker Botts L.L.P. is advising Mitsubishi on Iraq’s first midstream gas project, and represents new local clients such as Saudi Electricity Company, which the team is advising on all aspects of its IPP programme in Saudi Arabia. Robert Jordan has taken over as head of the UAE office following David Emmons’ return to Dallas. The practice recruited Vincent Mulvey from Denton Wilde Sapte.
