Career

Paul is a senior litigator in the firm and in the territory, and head of the firm's shipping and admiralty department. His extensive experience as an advocate since being called to the Bar in his native Jamaica in 1984, includes a tenure of two years in that jurisdiction as Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions. Since moving to the BVI where he was admitted to practice in 1993, Paul’s practice has focused on commercial litigation, corporate insolvency, and shipping and admiralty law. He has appeared as a senior barrister in many international commercial cases in the BVI High Court, the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal, and the Privy Council in London--the BVI's highest appellate court. Paul is also a Notary Public. Paul is a past President of the British Virgin Islands Bar Association and he has served as a Council Member of the Eastern Caribbean Bar Association. He has also served on numerous committees established in the BVI to address a wide range of issues concerning the law and the administration of justice in the territory. He served for many years as an associate tutor in law at the University of the West Indies' School of Continuing Studies in the BVI, and is himself a graduate of that University, and of the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica.

O'Neal Webster is best known for its work in cross-border matters, including shareholder disputes, enforcement of bankers' securities, and liquidations. Other areas of strength are asset recovery and preservation and general business litigation. It acted for various UBS entities in complex proceedings in multiple jurisdictions, which related to claw-back claims by the liquidators of Fairfield Sentry, Fairfield Lambda and Fairfield Sigma. Senior partner Paul Dennis QC is litigation head and Nadine Whyte focuses exclusively on commercial litigation, corporate insolvency and probate disputes. Asha Johnson-Willins joined from Samuels Richardson & Co as senior associate.

O'Neal Webster advises trustees (as individuals and corporations) and beneficiaries on wealth protection, probate planning, trust creation, administration and termination. The team represented a well-known international bank trustee in the first Hastings-Bass application ever to be heard before BVI courts. Managing partner Vanessa King is 'an excellent trusts lawyer' and serves as the current BVI chair of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Paul Dennis QC and Nadine White are highly regarded litigators, and senior associate Jenelle Archer advises on an extensive range of estate succession matters, particularly probate issues.
