Sarah (partner) has over 25 years’ real estate experience, specialising in retail and property development projects and co-leads the firm's Nottingham office retail team with Caroline Green. 

She has particular experience in dealing with the effects of omni-channel retailing on lease agreements and has spoken at a number of conferences in the UK and in Europe on this subject. 

Prior to joining the firm, “client-oriented” Sarah worked as an in-house commercial property lawyer at The Boots Company PLC, dealing with property development work and acting on high profile retail schemes.  

Sarah has extensive experience acting for a range of retailers and has recently been involved in a number of high profile acquisitions, redevelopments and complex, phased relocations. 

Sarah’s wide-ranging real estate experience also includes development agreements, land promotion agreements as well as overages and clawback arrangements. 

She also has specialist sports experience acting for a number of local clubs and she advises a range of public bodies on a number of real estate projects.

The group is noted for its strength in the retail and distribution, luxury, development and housing, public property, education and health sectors, handling a wide spectrum of issues, ranging from project developments to real estate finance. Highlights included advising Kevin Wheatcroft on the sale of Donington Race Track from Wheatcroft Properties to Motorsport Vision, including obtaining the necessary competition clearance and assisting with multiple long leases and options. Sarah Parkinson led on that matter and is praised for her ‘excellent vision and commercial acumen’. Barry Sully, who jointly heads the practice with the Birmingham-based Dominic Swift, led the team acting for Westerman Homes on the completion of funding arrangements, the acquisition of third-party land interests and disposal agreements with several national housebuilders in the context of the client’s joint venture with Nottinghamshire County Council and a Jersey-based investor regarding a development in Mansfield. Walgreens Boots Alliance and Enfield Council are also clients. Also recommended are Suki Tonks, who was recently promoted to partner, and Claire Burns, who was promoted to legal director.

The practice is jointly led by Caroline Green and Sarah Parkinson, who are instructed by major retail and hospitality companies including House of Fraser, Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Walgreens Boots Alliance and Papa John’s. Green advised DPDgroup on its purchase of a state-of-the-art parcel hub at Burbage, and Parkinson assisted a furniture retailer with the restructuring of its core business, which included an audit of the client’s title and the re-gear of certain business operations. New clients in 2017 include Europcar and Patisserie Holdings.
