Paul is the head of the team and is a highly regarded and very experienced banking lawyer based across the firm's Birmingham, Nottingham and Manchester offices. 

Paul advises UK and international corporate borrowers, banks and other lenders on bilateral and syndicated finance transactions, refinancings, restructures/turnarounds, acquisition and development finance, investment finance, debt purchase, asset based lending and general matters. 

He is recognised as a leading individual in the current Chambers Directory and Legal 500 Directory and has a particular focus on the public sector – leading the Browne Jacobson HCAI team (a panel appointment acting for the lending division of the Homes & Community Agency funding residential housing developments which has led to a strong stream of income for the Browne Jacobson banking & finance, property and construction teams).

The core areas of expertise are transactions in the healthcare sector, real estate finance, including in the social housing sector, and asset-based lending. ‘Outstanding’ practice head Paul Ray splits hits time between the Nottingham, Birmingham and Manchester offices and recently led in advising Santander Corporate & Commercial on the financing of the management buyout of Clamason Industries backed by Connection Capital. Shaun McCabe led the advice for Investec Bank regarding term and revolving credit facilities to fund the private equity backed acquisition of Valideus. Lloyds, RBS and Svenska Handelsbanken are also clients.

Paul Ray advised Santander on a £5.4m financing of a management buyout of Clamason Industries sponsored by Connection Capital, and on the borrower side advised Local Space Housing Association on a £75m private placement. Emma Hinton has expertise in social care deals, acting for borrowers in this space. Other clients include RBS. Mark Lewis is an associate of note.
