Position

Partner, Clare, joined Browne Jacobson in November 2015 from St Andrews Healthcare, the country’s largest mental health charitable provider. Clare was General Counsel for 7 years and took a senior Executive role with responsibilities including HR, project management and internal audit. She is part of our commercial health team.

Prior to joining, she was the independent health sector representative on the Staff Passport Group at the Department of Health, working on the Access to NHS Pension Scheme including drafting regulations and was a working party member on TUPE guide for NHS staff transferring to the independent health sector.  Clare has continued to work with the Department of Health on the role of the independent sector in 24/7 care and has developed a broad commercial/corporate practice for mental health and social care providers including acting on a number of care home deals.

Browne Jacobson LLP 's ‘highly recommended’ healthcare practice handles a range of work, including public/private partnerships, social care, and ehealth work. The Manchester office recruited Gerard Hanratty  from Capsticks LLP; he continues to advise several CCGs on a £2bn merger in the West Midlands. Simon Tait leads the national practice and specialises in contentious matters; he recently represented Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in an inquest into the death of a one-day-old baby from cerebral infarction. Clinical negligence expert Matthew Trinder  joined in October 2017 from BLM. Corporate and commercial specialist Oliver Pritchard advised Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on a £650m merger and Vision Express UK on the acquisition of 209 retail optical practices valued at £55m. Ben Troke leads the health and social care advisory team and Clare Auty  is a name to note within the independent healthcare sector.
