Firm “shines” in dispute resolution

November 2010

The dispute resolution team at Crill Canavan has been rated among the first tier of practices in that field by Legal 500.

The firm, which is one of only a handful of Jersey firms to rate in that top tier, is described as shining on the litigation side by the publication which provides comprehensive worldwide coverage on legal service providers in over 100 countries. The Legal 500 series is widely regarded as offering a definitive judgment on the capabilities of law firms.
The coverage singles out two members of the firm's litigation department for special recommendation.

Senior partner Advocate Santos Costa, is described as an ‘efficient and impressive advocate'. Advocate Santos Costa specialises in all aspects of commercial litigation, including trust cases, fraud and asset tracing claims and heavyweight commercial disputes.

Advocate Santos Costa acted as senior Jersey counsel for the first defendant in the Alhamrani trusts litigation, one of the biggest local litigation cases of recent years and a case which is mentioned in the Legal 500 recommendation for the firm.

Advocate Damian James is also recommended as ‘responsive and knowledgeable'. Advocate James has been a partner in the commercial litigation department since 2003. He is an experienced litigator who specialises in contentious and semi-contentious trust work and heavyweight commercial litigation.

Crill Canavan's Managing Partner Kathryn Purkis said that the rating was a fantastic boost for a deserving team. ‘Crill Canavan is a firm which is able to punch above its weight in this area of work, offering the highest level of service in dispute resolution. We have a hard-working and talented team of lawyers and are delighted that Legal 500 has recognised our abilities and placed us in the top ranking among much larger firms,' said Advocate Purkis.
