Position

Partner and notary public specialising in pensions and employee benefits; trusts and fiduciary law and regulation and compliance. Paul has over 20 years’ experience in the Jersey trust industry, both as a lawyer and as a professional trustee and he is a leading authority on trusts in the Island. He advises individuals and companies on trusts and pensions issues and he is the firm’s principal advising partner to the trustees of the States of Jersey Public Employees Contributory Retirement Scheme (PECRS), the Island’s largest pension fund; he advised PECRS on the incorporation of the public utility company, Jersey Telecom and Jersey Post, the Island’s postal service; has assisted the High Court in Hong Kong as an expert witness on Jersey trust law. Co-author with James Kessler QC of ‘Drafting Trusts and Will Trusts in the Channel Islands’ (2007 Sweet & Maxwell).

Qualified as an English barrister 1981; practised at English Bar 1981-83; legal adviser to UK financial services company 1983-86; Jersey office of London law firm 1986-99 (partner 1989-99); English solicitor 1989; joined Olsens 1999; notary public 2001; advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey 2001; partner Carey Olsen 2002.
