Matthew Swan, Managing Partner, Ogier Jersey, said "we are dedicated to the strategic development of our property team as well as providing support to Channel Island businesses across all sectors through our local business unit.  Julie will add further strength and depth to the Property team and will be working with Jonathan Hughes, Partner and fellow Co-Head of the Property Law Group."

Julie Melia said "Ogier is committed to providing a quality client focussed property law service in Jersey, so I am excited to be joining the Group and looking forward to working with Jonathan and the team at Ogier."

Ogier have also announced that Peter Bertram will be taking a sabbatical from the beginning of July until his official retirement from the partnership in January 2013.  Peter joined Le Masurier, Giffard & Poch (a predecessor firm of Ogier) in 1981 and became a partner in 1986.  Matthew Swan said "I would like to wish him all the best for the future and to thank him for his contribution to the Ogier Group over the last 30 years."

  • Jersey Royal Court considers measure of damages for dilapidations claims

In the absence of any statutory provision in Jersey addressing how dilapidations claims are to be quantified, the Royal Court's decision in JSSL v Barclays has provided some much needed guidance, particularly in circumstances where there is an acceptance that works to redress dilapidations have not been and will not be carried out.
