Based in Covent Garden, this highly regarded team of specialist family lawyers, mediators and counsellors combines extensive experience across all aspects of family law with a distinctive, client-centred approach.

The firm: Founded in 1995, Family Law in Partnership is widely recognised as one of the country’s leading family law practices. The firm was the first (and remains the only) practice to bring together lawyers, mediators and counsellors in a holistic approach to the resolution of relationship issues. The firm was instrumental in introducing the practice of collaborative family law to Europe and is widely acknowledged as the top collaborative law firm in London. It has been at the forefront of the Parenting after Parting initiative introduced by family law group Resolution and is the only firm of lawyers to offer clients in-house parenting workshops. Through its work with third-party agencies and the government to shape policy in family law, Family Law in Partnership continually seeks to find better ways to help clients negotiate the divorce and separation process.

Although known for its constructive and conciliatory approach to family law, the firm is also highly effective in litigation when required and has acted on numerous groundbreaking cases. At the heart of everything that the firm does is a desire to use the depth and breadth of expertise of its specialists to provide a solution which is in the best interests of the client. Strong bonds are fostered with clients through the firm’s commitment to a truly partner-led service. The firm has a wide-ranging client base, covering both UK and international individuals from all walks of life.

The firm is represented on a wide range of national and international family law associations. Memberships include the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, enabling the firm to provide a fully international service. Partner David Allison is chair of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) and each solicitor in the firm is a member of Resolution. Every partner is collaboratively trained and non-lawyer professionals are trained to work as family consultants within the collaborative process. The experience gained and contacts fostered as a result of the firm’s involvement with these organisations are used for the benefit of each and every client.

Types of work undertaken: The firm offers expertise across all aspects of family law, with particular emphasis on the resolution of issues arising from divorce and separation. Specialists regularly advise on cases involving financial complexity, including those with an international element, hidden assets, family companies and trust structures. It is highly regarded for its work in advising and representing parents on issues concerning their children, particularly removal from the jurisdiction. Moreover, it is widely recognised for its work with cohabitants and civil partners on issues such as relationship and prenuptial agreements and the registration of civil partnerships. Mediation and counselling services are available to all clients.
