Position
Toby leads the insurance team at Brodies. He is experienced in insurance litigation and reparation. He specialises in high value personal injury claims, industrial disease claims and property damage claims.
Career
Toby brings to Brodies over 17 years’ experience with a leading global law firm, where he built up a significant insurance practice. Over the past 15 years, Toby has acted for a number of industry sectors – Health Service; Prison Service; highway authorities; NHS Trust; water authorities and the paper industry. He has represented insurers, self insuring corporate clients and public bodies in major disputes over the years. Most recently, he has been involved in devising and implementing an alternative dispute resolution scheme for dealing with personal injury and human rights breach claims brought against a public body in Scotland. In 15 years of practice, Toby has always sought to provide solutions for clients in which costs are proportionate to the outcome. In the course of dealing with many actions over the course of these years, Toby has rarely been unable to bring matters to a conclusion without recourse to trial or proof. Toby is a qualified mediator. He is also a ranked individual for personal injury: mainly defendant by Chambers & Partners – applauded for his ‘down-to-earth attitude and willingness to go the extra mile to seek out the optimum defence’.
