Karen is a partner in Brodies' dedicated planning department, advising a range of public and private sector clients on a variety of contentious and non-contentious matters. She also leads Brodies' transport group. Karen's public sector background has given her a helpful insight into the local authority perspective in dealing with planning issues. She is an experienced inquiry advocate. She also has significant experience of compulsory purchase procedure and compensation issues for both promoters and objectors. She leads the Brodies' compensation team advising the local authorities promoting the Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine and Borders railway schemes. She has also represented Transport Scotland in relation to the consents process for a number of significant roads projects. She also co-authored the updated chapters of the stair memorial Encyclopedia on planning, and compulsing purchase and compensation.
Trained Cunninghame District Council (now North Ayrshire); qualified 1997; remained with Council's litigation team for a further three years; property litigation at McClure Naismith 2000-04; joined Brodies 2004, made partner 2008.
