Andrew is a partner and head of the Manchester real estate team and the national planning unit. He specialises in planning, highways, compulsory purchase and compensation and local government law. Andrew acts for an extensive range of clients including landowners, developers, house builders and retailers, as well as public sector bodies. He has work experience of acting on all types of development, in and out of centre retail, business, residential, roads, airports, stadia, tall buildings, energy, waste and minerals. He also advises on environmental issues. Recent successes include advised Lancashire County Cricket Club on its scheme to redevelop Old Trafford Cricket Ground enabled by retail development to secure its test match status, advised Yorkcourt Properties Ltd for many years in respect of a strategic business park and housing site in Wakefield, advised the Co-operative Group in respect of recent windfarm projects, advised Langtree Group PLC on the restoration and redevelopment of the international garden festival site in Liverpool and advised Langtree Group PLC on the development of St Helen’s rugby league stadium and enabling retail development.

Andrew Piatt leads the team from Manchester, with the ‘extremely thorough and logicalRobert Waite, whose ‘knowledge of planning law and application to real projects is immense’, and associate Gareth Davies as the main Nottingham advisers. The duo recently acted for Bloor Homes on the planning conditions to deal with mine water, a Community Infrastructure Levy exemption and a section 106 unilateral undertaking regarding a legacy site at Station Road Deepcar Sheffield with a planning permission for housing.
