Position

Andrew is a Partner and leads the banking and finance team nationally and is responsible for managing many of its national panel appointments. Andrew specialises in advising on finance for a wide range of corporate leveraged transactions. He is regularly involved in advising lenders, financial sponsors and borrowers in relation to structured corporate finance and complex, cross-border deals. Andrew also has experience in relation to real estate funding , ABL and surety facilities and transactions.

Andrew’s clients include many of the leading banks and financial institutions operating in the UK as well as private equity investors and corporate borrowers. Andrew has over 25 years' experience as a partner in the Midlands' market, acting for financial clients such as HSBC Bank, Lloyds Bank, Santander, AIB, The Royal Bank of Scotland, LDC and Palatine Private Equity, as well as supporting larger corporate clients including Lifetime Brands, Inc., and Nasmyth Group.

Qualified 1987. Partner Gateley Plc 1996 to date.

Education

University of Birmingham (LLB); College of Law, Chester (Solicitors Finals Examination, second-class Hons).

Leisure

Andrew enjoys watching Birmingham City FC and Warwickshire CCC. He also enjoys cycling, golf to compensate for his liking of good food, wine and beer. Andrew is a supporter of the Birmingham Hippodrome, and is particularly a fan of the Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Gateley Plc handles a range of transactions for borrowers and lenders, including MBO finance and non-bank lending advice. Andrew Madden  and Rebecca Sherwin (who also heads the firm's real estate finance practice) advised Clydesdale Yorkshire Bank as financiers of Evac+Chair’s MBO, and in the borrower space Madden advised Seafresh Group on a refinancing, which included securities over assets in both the UK and US and inter-creditor agreements involving the company’s Thai owners. Carol Betts advised HSBC on a £13m loan to a Manx company to purchase the Thomas Cook headquarters in Peterborough via a BVI structure.
