Restructuring.

Position

Ken has wide ranging experience of all aspects of restructuring and insolvency with an emphasis on non-contentious matters and turnaround work. He has advised lenders, insolvency practitioners, companies and directors, creditors and stakeholders for over 20 years, operating across a wide variety of industries and business sectors. Ken is recognised by his clients for giving quick technical and commercial advice on complex matters. Ken is a keen speaker on restructuring related topics, including presentations given at INSOL Europe Congresses. He is the co-author of the publication ‘Buying and Selling Insolvent Companies and Businesses’ and a contributor to other leading texts. He is a member of R3, Insolvency Lawyers Association and INSOL Europe, and was until recently a non-appointment taking Licensed Insolvency Practitioner. Recent successes include advising the administrators of Aylesford Newsprint Limited and the administrators of Cargostore International Limited. He has represented the office holders of a number of retail brands including Aquascutum, Jaeger, Peter Worth and La Senza, and in 2017 advised the buyers of Style Group Brands Limited out of administration. Ken has also worked on the restructuring of care home groups, agricultural businesses and media companies.

Trained Edge & Ellison, Birmingham (now part of Squire Patton Boggs); qualified 1993; assistant solicitor 1993-2000; partner 2000-05 Edge & Ellison/Hammonds (following merger); 2005-11 partner Sprecher Grier Halberstam (now part of Shakespeare Martineau); 2011 partner Gateley.

Ken enjoys travel and walking, with recent memorable trips including a tour around Japan and a hike to Everest Base Camp. He is a keen follower of Birmingham City FC.
