Bruce is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales, Scotland and Australia. He was head of the commercial ships and yacht team in London until 2017. His expertise is in sale, purchase and construction transactions across both the superyacht and offshore support vessels (OSV) sectors of the maritime industry, as well as resolution of related disputes and marine insurance issues. His work for the past 25 years has involved advising owners, charterers and builders, domestically and internationally, on contracts for sale and purchase, construction or charters in the superyacht and OSV sectors, as well as assisting in flag registrations and ownership structures. In the superyacht sector, Bruce has acted for owners in particular since 1999, and before that for owners and operators in the marine tourism sector of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. In the OSV sector, he has particular experience on behalf of owners and charterers in the international purchase, bareboat charter and associated flag registrations in the Caspian Sea littoral States, Venezuela, as well as in South East Asian and African waters. He also has advised on a wide range of insurance-related yacht claims and disputes for P&I Clubs, other marine insurers and owners/chaterers in the UK, Australasian region- and other parts of the world, as well as resolving related complex or high-value commercial marine disputes globally. Recent examples of dispute work include: negotiating non-litigated resolution of contractual shipbuilding disputes for buyers under commercial vessel construction contracts with Dutch/Chinese builders and Malaysian builders with respective vessel values of $28m and $9m; pre-hearing arbitration for Korean shipbuilders in a $33m contract; and advising a superyacht owner in ongoing arbitrated dispute with former broker/managers.
