Ruth is a recognised leader in the regulatory field with over 25 years’ experience of business defence and risk management work for businesses and senior office holders across all regulatory disciplines, including fatal accidents, major incidents, fraud, bribery, money laundering and pollution events. Recent instructions include: acting for Bellway PLC on all health and safety matters, acting for Drayton Manor Park when a member of the public died during a school trip and advising on the Didcot Power Station collapse.

Ruth is currently advising a number of organisations reviewing fire arrangements across their high rise apartment portfolio in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, providing strategic advice to Plc Boards and individual office holders.

A key focus of Gateley Plc is on defending cases involving fatal accidents, gross negligence manslaughter and corporate manslaughter. Ruth Armstrong leads the team nationally and is an expert in advising on high profile investigations for corporate clients.She recently defended Drawn Metal on a multi-defendant manslaughter claim which arose from a lawyer being killed by a falling window frame and advised AGD Equipment on a fatal accident suffered while conducting pressure testing on its premises. Pauline Munro is also a key figure who is 'approachable', 'professional', 'thorough' and 'works to an exceptionally high standard'.  Also recommended are associate Kate Oliver and solicitor Chris Grainger, who regularly acts on criminal defence work in this space.

The team handles matters at all stages including providing initial crisis management advice in addition to advising on investigations and at inquest and prosecution. The practice represented Dr. Oetker (UK) in lengthy investigations and prosecution by the HSE arising from an incident involving a forklift truck resulting in life changing injuries. Birmingham-based Ruth Armstrong heads the national practice which includes the 'thorough and professional' Pauline Munro in the Leeds office. Recently promoted partner Monroe has significant expertise in advising clients in manufacturing, retail, food and construction and is additionally considered 'excellent and effective in areas of environmental'.
