Tom leads our national Corporate team. Tom is a leading corporate lawyer focussing on UK and cross-border acquisitions and disposals, with over 15 years experience of advising private equity and venture capital transactions. Tom acts for international and domestic corporates, financial institutions, management teams and entrepreneurs. His key clients include Connection Capital, LDC, Dunedin, Inflexion, YFM, Seneca, Intrinsic Equity, Seafresh Group, Ultralife Corporation, Pantech Group, Mills CNC, Healthcare and Services Technology, FW Baker, United Steels and Steel & Alloy. Recent successes include: Advising Connection Capital LLP on the management buyouts of JCRA Group, ACT Clean, Clamason Industries, Teamsport Racing, Carter Accommodation and Essex Safety Glass and the growth capital investments in Virtua UK, The Light Cinemas, Redeem Holdings and 23.5 Degrees. Advising NorthEdge Capital on the MBO of Bridge Farm Nurseries. Advising LDC on its investment in Dale Power Solutions. Acting for Dunedin LLP on the buyouts of Kee Safety and Formaplex. Advising Ultralife Corporation on the acquisition of Accutronics Limited. Acting for YFM Equity Partners and Octopus Investments on the sale of Callstream Group Limited to J2 Global. Gateley Plc’s Leicester team has a strong focus on mergers, acquisitions, buyouts and disposals. Senior partner Gareth John, whose specialisms include private equity-related work, recently included advised Certas Energy UK on its acquisition of Trucks Stop Holdings, which involved leverage the firm’s local real estate expertise. John and Birmingham-based practitioner Tom Durrant jointly led a team assisting a newco buyer on its acquisition of Bridge Farm Nurseries via a management buyout, supported by NorthEdge Capital. The client base includes private equity houses including Connection Capital and Palatine Private Equity, as well as major corporates such as Aurum Group, Phoenix Parker Holdings and new client B M Fashions (Holdings).

The 'excellent' Gateley Plc¬†team in Reading is led by ‚Äėexperienced and knowledgeable‚Äô corporate practice head Andrew Peddie¬†and head of commerce, technology and media¬†Paul De Vince. De Vince joined from Shoosmiths LLP,¬†where he headed the commercial team; his expertise includes outsourcing, designing trade models, supply chain management and procurement matters. The team was also strengthened by the hire of senior associate Mailin Bala.¬†The team‚Äôs work has increasingly focused on servicing the needs of private equity houses in the Thames Valley corridor; Peddie assisted Maven Capital Partners and NVM Private Equity and their respective related venture capital trusts on an investment in Contego Fraud Solutions. Senior associates Mark Metcalfe]¬†and Sarah Souter¬†also advised Connection Capital on the MBO of financial risk management advisory firm JCRA Group, with the assistance of Birmingham-based supervising partner¬†Tom Durrant.¬†The team also excels in the technology, food, defence and recruitment sectors, with CACI, Vittles Foods and Cohort featuring on the client roster.

Elsewhere in capital markets, the two also advised Stockdale Securities as Nomad to the ¬£16.9m AIM IPO of Verditek, which owns several cleantech businesses. Chris Reed ¬†‚Äėworks hard, keeping things rolling and most importantly getting the best deal for clients in the long term‚Äô - his work includes significant buy-side MBO deals; Tom Durrant¬†advised Inflexion Private Equity on the management buyout of PCMS Group, which provides point of sale software to retailers including Waitrose.
