Peter is a dispute resolution lawyer. Following qualification he dealt with general commercial disputes, with an increasing volume of contentious construction work. The work now undertaken by Peter is almost exclusively for housebuilders and is a mix of contentious real estate, contentious construction, professional negligence and general dispute resolution. Peter acts for most of the large national housebuilders. Important recent cases have included defending a multi-million pound claim for a quasi-overage payment which went to trial in the Chancery Division, as well as advising on the correct interpretation of a conditional contract for the acquisition of a valuable development site in London. He is also currently advising on a number of defects claims arising from high rise developments. Peter has also continued to be involved in a number of high-value professional negligence claims, mainly against geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineers arising from advice on ground conditions. He is also a CEDR-accredited mediator.

Gateley Plc has a strong reputation in professional negligence, particularly on construction-related cases. Steve Goodrham is one of three partner who heads the practice and 'gets to the heart of a case very quickly', 'works out with the client what the right approach is' and 'then sticks to it'. Fellow practice head Peter Davies  is particularly active on construction related claims and advised a major house builder on a claim against geo-environmental engineers who failed to identify asbestos contamination on the client's purchased site. Also leading the team is Mark Wilson  , who focuses on claims against insolvency practitioners and offshore accountants and auditors. Also recommended is Michelle Davies who acts on claims against solicitors, tax advisers and accountants, and 'is very good at getting to grips with the detail of a case' and 'making sure that deadlines are met'.
