Partner and head of employment, responsible for a team of eight fee-earners. Work split is 70% contentious employment and 30% corporate support. Key cases include enhanced collective entitlements on TUPE transfers (currently in EAT) and reported cases in previous roles. Key clients include Mears Group PLC and Interserve FM Ltd.

Career

Trained at Challinors (qualified 1997) and appointed into general litigation. Moved to EEF in 1999 and remained until 2003. Moved to DLA Piper as a solicitor and made associate. Moved to Bevan Brittan in 2008. Joined BPE Solicitors in 2009 and made partner.

In Harrow LBC v Ayiku [2012] EWHC 1200 (Admin) Sales J held that the word “or” in the Council Tax (Exempt Dwellings) Order 1992, art 3 Class N, had a disjunctive meaning, therefore it was sufficient for the non-British spouse of a foreign student to satisfy one or other of the two conditions, namely being prevented from taking paid employment or being prevented from claiming benefits, in order to qualify as a “relevant person” who was exempted from liability to pay council tax.
