Work Department

Commercial litigation.

Position

Partner in the commercial litigation department in Liverpool with wide experience of complex litigation, particularly in the field of construction law. She has recently been involved in several large-value construction cases, acting principally on behalf of professionals and sub-contractors. Jacqui also has expertise in competition law, having represented clients in proceedings under Articles 81 and 82 of The Treaty of Rome.

Career

Trained Laces; qualified 1985; assistant, associate Lace Mawer; then partner Berrymans Lace Mawer 1991; partner Brabners LLP 2001 to date.

Recent work includes acting for Integra Compliance in a £4m dispute against SWS Compliance, and representing T J Morris in a £16m claim for compensation under competition law for excess Visa and MasterCard fee charges. Salford Red Devils, Hadfield Wood Recyclers and Chester Racecourse are also clients. Team head Paul Lunt has a ‘wise head, and a calm, reassuring manner’; his ‘advice is straightforward and commercial, and is able to deal with matters with little fuss and good success’. Other key figures include recently promoted partner Philip Steele, who heads the defamation and privacy team, and is ‘hardworking and clever beyond his years’; Jacqui Lloyd, who handles construction, engineering and property disputes; and senior associate Jack Froggatt.

The team also provides a full recovery and enforcement service. Jacqui Lloyd heads the team in Liverpool, which includes legal executive Tony Foley, and advises on a range of secured and unsecured debt recovery work. Stuart Irons heads the team in Preston, and acts for banks, building societies and finance houses on secured and unsecured lending, as well as the recovery of commercial debt on behalf of companies and professional organisations.
