Because most of our work in managing the affairs of vulnerable people is sensitive and confidential, we are unable to publicise many of our notable cases. Recent matters that have been reported include:

Tinsley v Manchester City Council [2017] EWCA Civ1704

Won landmark care funding case in Court of Appeal, establishing that the Council had acted unlawfully in refusing to assess and fund our client’s need for care following his release from detention to treat his mental ill-health. The decision helps clarify that the kind of aftercare that Mr Tinsley is entitled to, like any other kind of medical care, shouldn’t be means tested. The Council have declined to appeal.

SAD and ACD v SED (CoP 12791319)

Client is a HNW Greek resident with bipolar and fluctuating capacity who wished to stop her children controlling her finances under a Lasting Power of Attorney she granted when she was well. After a contested hearing, the Court of Protection judge ruled that we should manage her wealth instead of her daughters due to our positive relationship with her.

Re Gladys Meek [2014] EWCOP1, [2014] MHLO 32

A high profile financial abuse case, where we were appointed as panel deputy and recovered substantial sums on behalf of our elderly and vulnerable client. On a successful statutory will application to exclude the previous lay deputies, the Judge described their conduct as “extremely bad” and warned that the deputyship order was not a ‘licence to loot’.
